A real honour to be given the opportunity to deliver my speech on freedom and human rights at a Kashmir rally in Dewsbury at lunchtime today, interspersed with Conservative canvassing sessions in Mirfield this morning and afternoon.
It's been a busy day conducting residents' surveys in Mirfield this morning, then over to Dewsbury Moor this afternoon with Farmida Ishaq, our outstanding Conservative candidate in Dewsbury West, to help out with a flytipping issue.
On Friday 16th November 2018 Mark Eastwood, a well known local campaigner in Dewsbury and Chairman of the Association was selected by a member's vote to be the parliamentary candidate for the Constituency and the future MP for Dewsbury.
I'm often contacted by people about their problems with Kirklees Council. Although I don't have any direct control over how the council operates or the decisions they make I meet with them regularly and as your Member of Parliament it's important that I do my part in holding them to account.
I've been working with Kirklees Council, the Dewsbury Town Board, the Arcade Group, local shopkeepers and West Yorkshire Police to do all I can to help bring Dewsbury back to its prime.
Safety on our roads is never far from people's minds - whether they live in the middle of town or in a rural village. I've been campaigning with school children, local communities and our councillors to ensure that we can make our roads safer.
